Lesbian Gay Bisexual Youth Project

Series contains materials related to the operations of the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youth Project, a community support group founded in Halifax in 1993. The Youth Project is a community space that provides free counselling, leadership opportunities, and other supports for members of the LGBTQ+ community under the age of 25. Materials include retreat planning materials, budgets, meeting notes, educational resources, reports, policies and procedures documents, correspondence, and clippings.

Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project [NSRAP]

Series contains materials documenting the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project administrative activities, research and advocacy work. Leather community materials

Series contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement with the Halifax-based TightRope leather brotherhood, which was established in the early 1990s, incorporated in 1997, and disbanded in 2007. Series also contains materials related to the Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] organization, which operated between 1999-2010, and the leather community more broadly. Materials include TightRope administrative and financial records, correspondence, and promotional materials; event cards, flyers, posters, programs, and certificates of participation for TightRope events, MACLeather contests, and leather events across Canada and the United States; photographs of TightRope meet-ups, MACLeather contests, and other leather community events; web print-outs; issues of the Phalia newsletter published by Spearhead leather and denim club in Toronto; erotic gear catalogues; and one copy of the 2002 Men of Pumpjack calendar.

Community, State and Market on the North Atlantic Rim

Series comprises created and collected by Richard Apostle in the course of his study of the crisis in the fishing industries in Northern Norway and Atlantic Canada, which was funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and resulted in the publication of Richard Apostle et al., Community, State and Market on the North Atlantic Rim: Challenges to Modernity in the Fisheries. Record types include grant applications, reports and correspondence; publishing and editorial correspondence; secondary research materials; taped research interviews; manuscripts; and a copy of the published book.

Stewart was involved in the process of achieving Affirmed status for St John's United Church through the Affirming Ministries Program. Series contains articles, essays, and pamphlets regarding homosexuality and religion; informational documents associated with Affirm United and the Affirmation Congregation Program; manuals and other reference materials relating to the operation of Affirmed congregations; correspondence; issues of Consensus, the Affirm United newsletter; and issues of Open Hands, a journal published by Affirmations: United Methodists for Lesbian/Gay Concerns.

Series contains materials produced or collected as part of Larry Baxter's involvement with community HIV/AIDS organizations in Nova Scotia, including AIDS Nova Scotia [formerly MACAIDS], the Nova Scotia Persons With AIDS Coalition [NSPWAC], and the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia [ACNS]. This series contains documents pertaining to the administrative aspects of the Associated Alumni. Documents include correspondence and questionnaires pertaining to the association's founding as well as drafts of the association's constitution, by-laws, and list of executive committee members.

GayLine reference materials

Series contains reference materials used by volunteers of the GayLine. Series is divided into two subseries.
The first sub-series contains reference and educational materials used by GayLine volunteers covering issues such as homosexuality and coming out, sexual heath and AIDS prevention, alcoholism and substance abuse, abuse in LGBT relationships, parenting, discrimination, legal rights, and women's issues. Materials include pamphlets, flyers, legal briefs and resources, newsletters, essays, and bibliographies.
The second subseries contains reference materials relating to the operations of other helplines, as well as information about LGBT businesses and services, community groups, and events in Halifax, across Canada, and in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Oceania. Materials include advertisements and press releases, pamphlets, newsletters, flyers, information sheets, and directories.

GayLine administrative records

Series contains administrative records for the GayLine, established in 1972. GayLine was renamed to the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Line in 1994. Materials in this series include GayLine monthly and annual reports; call logs and templates; staff notebooks; correspondence; memos, minutes, and a certificate of incorporation relating to the name change; and notes.

Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence and records

Series comprises Ron O'Dor's administrative correspondence, reports and other records related to his teaching, committee work and research roles within and external to Dalhousie University, and to his roles as head of the Department of Biology and director of the Aquatron facility. Records related directly to his teaching are largely found in the teaching records series, while most correspondence related to named research projects is found within the related series or subseries.

Marginal Work World Research Program

Series comprises records created and collected by Richard Apostle documenting his work in the Marginal Work World Research Program, an interdisciplinary and long-term examination of employment and work settings in the Maritime provinces carried out through the Institute of Public Affairs, Dalhousie University. Richard Apostle's research focused on two projects: the General Segmentation Survey, which involved the collection and analysis of private sector employment data across the Maritimes; and the longitudinal Morphology Survey, which sampled low-wage establishments across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and included managerial personnel and employee interviews. Record types include secondary readings and notes; datasets; agreements; recorded interview and transcripts; manuscripts and published papers; meeting records; and correspondence and memoranda.

Henry Orenstein's records

Series consists of Henry Orenstein's materials regarding his professional activities, including photographs, negatives, sketches, programs, flyers, posters, postcards, slides, correspondence and other materials. Fonds contains several of Henry Orenstein's art pieces and sketches, including related to the "Sudbury Industrial Landscape" project. In the 1950s, Henry Orenstein was commissioned by the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers of Sudbury to paint a mural for the local union hall, which was the centre of a broad-ranging cultural role of Mine Mill Local 598 in the Sudbury area. At that time, Mine Mill was in the midst of a series of raids by the United Steelworkers.
