Fonds consists of records related to Sandy Young’s academic research and teaching career, with an emphasis on sport and sport history in Nova Scotia and Canada.
The largest series consists of student papers, most of which were written for Dr. Young’s leisure studies classes and contain information gleaned from student interviews with athletes. Records include official and personal correspondence; research notes; newspaper clippings regarding Nova Scotia athletes; conference information; committee records; film and video recordings used for class instruction; magazines; programs from various sports associations and teams; published articles by Young on Maritime sport history; sound recordings; teaching slides about international sports history; photographs of Nova Scotian and/or Canadian athletes; postcards; maps; and scrapbooks. There is also an assortment of artifacts and memorabilia related to Nova Scotia Olympian Aileen Meagher, including a track outfit, relay baton, and Olympic bronze medal certificate.
The fonds includes manuscripts of most of his published works—novels, short stories, articles, radio broadcasts and plays, and forewords for other works—from 1929 to 1976; research notes and general historical studies; sound recordings; correspondence covering the years 1914 to 1994 (including letters with other authors and his publishers, among others); diaries (closed at the author's request until 2019); photographs; memorabilia; material related to his father who fought and died in World War I; and several scrapbooks containing reviews of his books, clippings, and other research material.

Materials include administrative documents and some financial records, programs, posters, newsletters, histories of Theatre Arts Guild and information about amateur theatre in Halifax, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks.
File contains publicity photographs of Ellen Ballon. Most are portraits, but some feature her playing the piano, participating in World War II support activities, at ceremonies, at concerts, and at receptions. Most of the photographs are undated but seem to span the entirety of her adult life. The last photograph in the album is of Ballon receiving her honorary doctorate from McGill University in 1954.
This fonds includes a variety of photographic material relating to the Marine Workers Federation. As well this fonds contains a copy of the newspaper "The Nova Scotia Worker" Issued by the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour.
Subseries illustrates research regarding Vincent C. MacDonald in the development of a memorial article in the Dalhousie Alumni newsletter "Hearsay" for Law Graduates. Article was published in 1985. Subseries includes correspondence regarding the article, typed drafts of tributes from contributors, handwritten letters from Vincent C. MacDonald to his son, Peter, and familial scrapbooks.

The first was created during Goodman's years as a student at Dalhousie and contains photographs; dance cards; place cards; programs; schedules; and memorabilia from freshman initiation and other events. The other contains similar materials dating from Goodman's graduation and a few years following.
Subseries consists of photographs, slides, paintings, and VHS film cassettes that were taken at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College between 1905-2015. These depict students, faculty, staff, buildings, sports and events like convocation, and other campus activities.
File contains two scrapbooks, or memory books, created to reflect the activities of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association from 1952 to 1984. The auxiliary dismantled in the mid 1980s; former member Joan MacAulay created these scrap books in May of 2014 to acknowledge the work and friendship auxiliary members had.
