Folle Embellie

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, and publicity and marketing activities of this project. This feature film is set in 1942 war-time France and follows inmates released from an institution by the chaos of the war. The 100-minute drama was written and directed by Dominique Cabrera and starred Miou-Miou, Jean-Pierre Leaud, Yoland Moreau, Gabriel Arcand, and Pascale Montpetit. A France/Belgium/Canada co-production, the film was completed in French with English sub-titles. This series contains agreements, applications, a cast list, a chain of title, correspondence, cost reports, credits, dialogue translations, director's notes, incorporation documents, press releases, publicity-related materials, schedules, scripts, a synopsis, and video recordings.

Rita MacNeil in Japan

The project is a documentary which follows Rita MacNeil touring and performing in Japan in 1985. Chris Zimmer's first production was produced for the CBC. It was directed by Lulu Keating and written by Chris Zimmer. This series contains a two-sheeter and video recordings.

Mindshadows

Bernlef's best-selling novel Hersenschimmen ( Out of Mind). It focuses on a Dutch married couple living in Cape Breton and coping with the husband's advancing Alzheimer's disease. The 113-minute drama was co-produced by Imagex, directed by Heddy Honigman, and written by J. Bernlef. The cast starred Joop Admiraal and Marja Kok. Mindshadows was shown at film festivals in Berlin and Montreal in the 1980s and was also included in the 1993 retrospective of Canadian film Les Cinema du Canada in Paris. This series contains agreements, correspondence, a crew list, credits, film posters, production stills, promotional materials, release prints, scripts, transcripts, a treatment, and video recordings.

Fonds consists of records regarding imX’s corporate operations, productions, and other projects between 1985 and 2008. Corporate operations include imX Communications and its subsidiary companies: ImageX, Helix Animation, and North/Northeast Ventures. Film productions include theatrical full-length or short films, including documentaries. Television productions include made-for-television movies and documentaries, stand-alone productions, and series. Animated productions include feature length, television series, and shorts.

This fonds comprises ninety-four series which are arranged alphabetically by the name of the corporate entity, production, and project. Textual files contain a wide range of documents including scripts, call sheets and daily production reports, funding applications, cast and crew employment contracts, notes on location scouting, co-production agreements, marketing plans, budgets, music cue sheets, insurance coverage, and correspondence. Electronic mail (4.57 GB) downloaded from the e-mail server at imX corporate headquarters in Halifax contains 32,134 individual messages in 1,054 folders covering all aspects of corporate operations and business transactions. There are also 23,368 electronic files (15.6GB) that support the activities of imX, imageX, and Helix Animation documents in use between 1990 and 2008. Together with the text files, they represent a complete record of the activities of imX Communications and its affiliates.

Most corporate records have been retained in order to provide a full picture of what it is like to run a film production company in Nova Scotia. In addition, the records for three feature film productions, The Divine Ryans, Margaret’s Museum, and Love and Death on Long Island, have also been fully retained. 134 linear feet of textual material was not retained.

Midday Sun

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, and publicity and marketing activities of this project. This feature film tells the story of a Canadian volunteer with good intentions to change the world who is placed in a small African village. It was shot in Zimbabwe and is notable for its unsentimental documentation of the contemporary African landscape, people, and lifestyle. The 94-minute drama was co-produced by Imagex, written and directed by Lulu Keating, and starred Isabelle Mejias, George Seremba, and Jackie Burroughs. This series contains agreements, a cast contact list, credits, crew lists, dialogue transcripts, film posters, location stills, a music cue sheet, a one-sheet, a press kit, release prints, a script, a synopsis, and video recordings.

ImageX was a subsidiary company of imX Communications. The two names, ImageX and imX, are sometimes found within the same file. All corporate records relating to ImageX have been retained.

Politoons

Series consists of records documenting the administrative, creative, financial, legal, production, and publicity and marketing activities of this project. The project is a series of animated cartoons done in the style and tradition of editorial cartoons for television broadcast as interstitial programs and inserts in news magazines and current affairs commentary programs. Animations were based on the cartooning of award-winning Halifax Chronicle-Herald cartoonist Bruce McKinnon. The program was produced by imX, directed by Geoff D’Eon, and broadcast by the CBC. This series contains agreements, applications, broadcaster releases, budget and cash flow reports, cartoonist's work, correspondence, a one-sheet, press kits, press releases, schedules, storyboards, s synopsis, and video recordings.
