Ann Connor Brimer keynote address launching Canadian Children's Book Week

File contains a copy of Budge Wilson's "Ann Connor Brimer Talk," the keynote address at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which launched Canadian Children's Book Week in 1999. The speech addresses the state of children's literature in Nova Scotia. Fonds consists of manuscripts and proofs of Budge Wilson's books and short stories; correspondence with publishers, students, and teachers; publicity material; photocopies and clippings of reviews, profiles, and notices regarding awards and appearances; diaries; recorded radio interviews; and an assortment of other documents created and collected by the author throughout her writing career. The fonds also contains materials relating to the adaptation of Wilson's novel "Before Green Gables" into a Japanese animated television series.

File contains letters and drawings in response to Budge Wilson's books "The Long Wait," "Cassandra's Driftwood," "Harold and Harold," "John Bertrand Nijinsky and Charlie," and "Going Bananas," written by students at Salem Elementary School.

Canadian Library Association acceptance speech for The Leaving

File contains a copy of Budge Wilson's acceptance speech printed in School Libraries in Canada (Summer 1991) for her Canadian Library Association (CLA) Young Adult Canadian Book Award for "The Leaving," and a copy of her letter to the magazine regarding the omission of the title of her book from the published speech. The speech was originally delivered at the CLA/CACL Book Awards Banquet in Montreal, Quebec. The file also includes an annotated, typescript copy of the speech, possibly used at the awards presentation.
