ACNS was formed in 1996 via the merger of two pre-existing organizations, the Nova Scotia Persons With AIDS Coalition and AIDS Nova Scotia, and still operates today. ANS was a non-profit advocacy organization for persons living with HIV/AIDS, incorporated in 1986. AIDS Nova Scotia merged with the Nova Scotia Persons With AIDS Coalition in 1995 to form the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia.
