Historical materials

This series contains reports, drawings, correspondences, books, and photos regarding the history of the Nova Scotia Agriculture College. This includes the institute's early drafts for motto and crest, past principal's signatures, and contribution to the provincial government between 1913-2005.

Colombia project

This sub-series contains records that were created and used in the partnership project with the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (Columbia) in the development of a Training Program in Sustainable Agriculture at UFPS both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The program ran between 1997 and 2002. The Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (UFPS) has been asked to play a key role in “El Salto Social”, the social leap forward, in the Santander region of Colombia. New curricula will be introduced at UFPS, faculty will be upgraded and new extension and outreach programs established with the assistance of NSAC through this project. Other project partners are the Universidad de la Republica Uruguay (URU) of Uruguay and Saint Mary’s University (SMU). This is an Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) University Program for Cooperation in Development (UPCD) Tier 2 project led by NSAC. Herds

This sub-series consists of summary reports of the different livestock breeds held at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus's farms. These were published in 1964 and 1985

College herd summaries

This file contains hand-written summaries of the college herd at Nova Scotia Agricultural College [ca. 1900] to 1965. The accession describes breeds of cattle: Guernsey, Jersey, Ayrshires, Herefords, and Holsteins; breeds of sheep: Scottish Blackface, Shropshire, and Hampshire; and horses: light horses, and Clydesdales. These descriptions include when and how many were purchased, herd book and individual animals name and numbers, and stud book records. The summaries also include details of two disease events that affected herd-wide health including 'Bovine Tuberculosis' and 'contagious abortion'. Mention is made of the conferring of a 'Superior Breeding Certificate' on Farm Superintendent, Archibald MacMillan. The summaries also make mention of the Nova Scotia Animal Breeders Coop Ltd with reference specifically to dairy cattle.

Ayrshire cow "Annie Laurie"

File contains a black and white photograph of the famous Ayrshire Cow "Annie Laurie", twice winner of first prize in milk test Guelph Ontario, owned by Agricultural College, Truro, Nova Scotia (45 x 52 cm). No date.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College principals, student life, and student play

File contains photographs of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus, principals, buildings, student sports teams, and a student play.
-- 49 photographs : colour ; 13 x 18 cm - taken of students presenting a play from 1993, title unknown, sign on the back of the stage says “ Congratulations class of 1993”. -- 1 black photo album which includes 46 photographs : b & w ; 12 ½ x 18 cm. 7 pages of negatives. Time period unknown, some pictures are labeled. Photographs include NSAC hockey team, Aggies hockey team, horses, faculty, basketball team, classrooms, residence construction, farms and barns, convocation, campus buildings, NSAC principals. Photographs have been removed from the sheets and placed in acid free plastic sleeves. Several prints were disposed of as they were duplicates or copies of older NSAC postcards. -- Sony U-matic videocassette (3/4), “Pesticide safety” by Ian Blenkhorn, Marion MacRae, Cathy Deveau, Mark Tracey. – cannot view the video; place in AV boxes, recommended for disposal unless it is an NSAC produced film.

MacGregor "The Farmers Candidates" entitled "The policy of the Government in respect to AGRICULTURE is centralized at the Provincial College and Farm at Truro" on June 9, 1916.
