File contains correspondence, newsletters, an annual report, and speeches relating to the non-governmental organization Citizens for Ocean Law (COL), renamed the Council on Ocean Law in 1985. Elisabeth Mann Borgese was a charter member of this organization. File includes regular newsletters from the group, which outline recent developments that relate the the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (i.e., ratifications), and other international issues that relate to the oceans (i.e., fishing disputes, pollution, etc.). Each newsletter contains a bibliography of recent publications relating to ocean law. The following issues are included: January/February 1984, March 1984, May 1984, September 1984, October/November 1984, December 1984, March/April 1985, May 1985, June 1985, August 1985, September/October 1985, November 1985, December 1985, February 1986, March 1986, April 1986, May 1986, June 1986, July 1986, August 1986, a bibliography from the September 1986 issue, December 1986, January 1987, March 1987, and April 1987. Included correspondence, discuss a project proposal by COL (Project III: "The Impact of the New Law of the Sea on International Institutions") for Pacem in Maribus (PIM) XV, an invitation to Mann Borgese to participate in a workshop on deep seabed mining (sent with a discussion paper on the subject by COL), a request for comments from Mann Borgese on a paper written by COL after the 1986 Preparatory Commission meeting (paper included), and correspondence between Mann Borgese and Professor Louis Henkin on sea-bed mining. Also included are the following speeches sent to COL members: "The 1982 COnvention on the Law of the Sea: At a Cross-Road" by Satya N. Nandan (United Nations), and Seaborne Movements of Hazardous Materials" by Miranda Wecker (COL); an annual report from 1990; International Ocean Institute correspondence; and a paper from the COL sent to the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea on the 1993 boat paper.
